A Short Professional Bio of Prophet Ingosi Mulega
I hail from an area with high malaria vector population density and that saw the introduction of vector control strategies like use of long-lasting insecticide bed-nets having long term benefits. Aftermath of upscaled chemical based vector control comes with insecticide resistance and behavioral change from the vectors. My MSc. research work was on evaluating factors involved in sustenance of residual malaria transmission. I began my laboratory career in Tudor District hospital from 2009 – 2011, where I was in-charge of blood samples from HIV positive clients for CD4+ T-cells and some biochemical test investigations. I steered in development of the first SOPs in the laboratory. I then moved to Kemri-Wellcome Trust Research Program under Tom William’s research group where I was involved in studies on genetic linkage of hemoglobinopathies like sickle cell and thalassemia to infectious disease like malaria and bacteremia from 2011 to 2015. I am currently the Senior Laboratory technician in Pwani University Science labs managing Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry and Physics laboratories. I briefly did some work on antimicrobial sensitivity of specific plant phytochemical extracts while in the University’s teaching labs. Early 2018 I was deployed as the Technician in-charge to kick-start the Pwani University Bioscience Research Center Laboratory by laying all the groundwork and making it work as a world-class research laboratory. I have a Diploma in Medical laboratory science from Technical University of Mombasa and a bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science from Mount Kenya
University, Thika then advanced with a Master of Science in Microbiology from Pwani University.
