Dr Cheryl Andisi Kivisi holds a PhD in Life Sciences from the Open University, UK, studying the host-parasite interactions in Plasmodium falciparum. She graduated in 2015 having done her studies between the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme in Kilifi Kenya and the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute in the UK. Before her PhD studies, Dr Andisi, who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences from Maseno University, had research internship fellowships with the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme and the International Centre for Insect Physiology and Ecology where she gained excellent research culture and networks. Since then she has been working as a Lecturer at Pwani University and also conducting research in Malaria at KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Program and Pwani University BioSciences Research Centre. Dr Andisi’s work has focused
mainly around understanding Plasmodium falciparum biology and host immunity in order to design better vaccines and interventions against severe malaria. This work has been supported through several grants from the Wellcome Trust and UoG GCRF. Her long term plans are to establish a vaccine immunology research group within Pwani University Biosciences research Centre, within which she will be mentoring graduate students in immunology of parasitic and infectious diseases. She is currently the academic leader for the Masters in Immunology Programme at the department of Biological Sciences at Pwani University.
Dr Andisi has a keen interest in mentoring students and is happy to have a chat with you.
