Areas of focus to synergise with ongoing activities include: molecular approaches to better understand the factors that determine the virulence of diseases such as malaria, dengue, chikungunya, and biological factors that make arthropod vectors such as mosquitoes and Tsetse flies efficient transmitters of diseases and the mechanism underlying human susceptibility to diseases including genetic traits and immunity. This will facilitate the identification of potential targets for drugs, vaccines, insecticides and other biological interventions.
